Semifinal T20 World Cup: India & Afghanistan In… Australia Out

India Into Semifinal

India stormed into the T20 World Cup semi-finals on Monday after skipper Rohit Sharma’s blistering 92 run set up 24-run victory over Australia in St Lucia.

Rohit Sharma Blazing Knock

Right-handed skipper Rohit Sharma hit eight sixes in his 41-ball blitz to establish the foundation for India’s imposing total of 205-5.  Rohit, The Indian captain hitting the fast bowler Mitchell Starc for four sixes in a 29-run over. Pat Cummins who took Hat-trick in the last game introduced to ball and Rohit greeted him by depositing the seamer’s first ball on the roof of the stadium for a monster six and completed his 50 (Fifty). His first in the tournament and India raced to the 100-mark in the ninth over.

Suryakumar Yadav (31) and Shivam Dube (28) played brisk cameos and Hardik Pandya scored 27 not out to push India to their first 200-plus total of the tournament (205/5).

Australia Innings

Opener Travis Head started the chase for Australia and hit aggressively 76 runs off 43 balls with nine fours and four sixes. However, India managed to restrict them to 181-7 short of 24-Run. Arshdeep Singh upset Australia by removing David Warner in the first over.

Axar Patel caught a stunning one-handed catch (looks like a catch of the tournament so far) at deep square leg to dismiss Mitchell Marsh (37). Left-arm spinner wrist Kuldeep Yadav bowled Glenn Maxwell who scored only 20 runs. And pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah successfully sealed India’s victory when he dismissed Travis Head.

“It is quite satisfying, especially when you play like that.” “Two hundred is a good score. But when you are playing on a ground like this when wind is such a big factor, then anything is possible.” said Rohit Sharma. “We know the opposition and the threat they bring with them. But I thought overall as a team we played well.

Afghanistan in Semifinal

On Monday in St Vincent, Afghanistan secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Twenty20 World Cup with a thrilling eight-run victory over Bangladesh under the Duckworth Lewis System. After this win Australia knocked out of the Twenty20 World Cup and Afghanistan enter to the Semifinal with India from Group A of Super 8.

After limiting Afghanistan to 115 for 5. Bangladesh needed to chase down 116 in 12.1 overs to qualify for the semifinals. But impressive bowling by Afghan bowler led by Rashid Khan took 4 wickets,  rattled the batting of Bangladesh. They were all out for only 105 Runs short by 8 runs.

India will play England and Afghanistan to play South Africa

Team India will now face England in the semifinals in Guyana on Thursday. On same day @ 6:00 pm IST Afghanistan will take on South Africa for their 1st ever T20 Semifinal game.
